Pin-up Girl Clothing

This is my kind of dress! I'm not sure exactly what shape it is because I think it changes depending on the length of the skirt, but I still love it! Nipped in at the waist and then a nice full skirt. Now I love pencil skirt dresses just as much (especially when I'm going for that sexy look *giggle*) but that requires big granny knickers (very sexy). I honestly don't know why girls don't wear this shape more often. Does it seem too old fashioned or fancy? It comes in so many variations that anyone is bound to find one that suits their "look". I love them any length: midi, to-the-knee and mini.

I don't have enough of this type of dress, I've some and they are mostly summer dresses that really lend themselves well to bare legs and peep-toe heels. I also feel they are such an easy thing to throw on during the summer, especially if you wanna look like you made an effort. They are already fitted so you just add a belt of your choice (if you wish) and a pair of shoes, et voila, you'll be looking well fancy.

Also Penneys have a rake of them at the moment so go in and have a gawk. Couldn't get any pictures but there is one I've my eye on. It's getting bought tomorrow! Outfit post soon...

This is gonna be a bigg'n... Style @ Set

So I was at Style @ Set over the weekend, all ran of course by the superb Blanaid Hennessy. Second year running and I was not disappointed! Brought my cousins to the Film Friday and it was unanimous that the films were great, The Annie Leibovitz one being everyone's particular favourite. Saturday I hit the stands with my two best friends. The whole thing was way bigger than last year and we had a lot to feast our eyes on!

We tried on dresses, hats and shoes, threatened each other with eye brow threading, stroked the furs, ate delicious food, had plenty of chats, drooled (a lot), watched a very interesting style panel with Brendan Courtney and spent all of our money!

Saturday night was filled with free vodka, making horrendous faces for the camera, getting insulted by artists drawing our delightful faces, busting a move to Salt 'n' Pepa, trying to think of the most awkward things to draw and eating chocolate (I was off it for Lent.)

Blanaid Hennessy you truly out did yourself! Fair play... Roll on year 3!

Burnt polka dots...

The weather has suddenly become bleak again... oh well back to work so. Even though the weather has changed I decided not to hide my legs, I live in hope. This outfit was kinda thrown together with not much thought process put into it (which is very unlike me). I wanted to be comfortable but not terribly lazy looking... I suppose that could be called a thought process.

I'd say low-top converse would be much cooler with this outfit but I haven't bought any yet. I want either an orange pair or a green pair... or a blue pair. This cardigan I rarely wore until recently. I used to have it open all the time and it just looked wrong. Then one day I was freezing so I buttoned up and it worked so much better. So now I use it as a crop top.

The real wonder of this outfit is this beautiful burnt orange hairband which I bought from Bonzie at Style @ Set over the weekend (full post on that soon). I absolutely love it! My second day in a row to wear it. I love hairbands but I find some of them can be terribly awkward to wear. This is the exact opposite, not only is it divine but it is so comfy on my head, I barely notice it.

Cool trousers for a warm day...

I got pants! Very happy about this. Got two pairs actually, these and a slightly fancier black pair for a grand total of €23! Two pairs for that price? I'm well pleased with myself. I have a feeling I am gonna be living in this pair, unnaturally comfortable. I've been getting great use out of that pink belt, I am constantly wearing it. It does help that my favourite hand bag is the same colour. Matchy matchy!

Love these shoes too but I find them hard to pair with things, maybe I'm just not being daring enough. Good for this colour block trend as well. Love when something you already own is bang on trend.

I feel I match my mother's lawn furniture very well, with my blue and pink. Oh and apologies for the funny face!

Whip it...

I finally got to watch Whip It on Sunday. Oh I loved it! Not only does it have Drew Barrymore (my favourite actress) but it also stars young Ellen Page. I love Ellen because she (or her characters) remind me of one of my best friends. The movie is a seriously good watch and now I really wanna be in a roller derby!

What I wanted to talk about are the clothes in this movie. Most people never realise that I love old rock band tees! I seriously do! I don't know whether I have an alter ego or am I that eclectic/insane to like tea dresses and band tees. When I watched the movie I was getting flashbacks of myself in faded jeans and long chain earrings, in cheese-cloth vests, smelly doodled cons and in my DIY "The Who" tee. Could I be a closet "alternative" em... person?

Anyway these band tees are something I love, this whole look is something I love! It can be done in such an understated way that it isn't too in your face. Who ever styled this movie and some great taste in tops! I even loved some of the mens tops, especially the numbered one shown above.

And those roller skates and gym shorts! I want...

Also is it wrong to be such a "playa" when it comes to styles? Should I just pick one? Most people say I'm girly and that head banging doesn't suit me, but what if I enjoy that kind of music (well some of it- thanks to the boyfriend) but also love petticoats? Do I have to choose?

I should find a happy medium.

Lustful Thoughts...

I should be working on my portfolio but here is a peek at something I am in lust with... Yummy indeed! Not only is it turquoise (my favourite colour) but it's a satchel as well, satchels are goooood. And the detail on it is simply divine, I just want to rub my hand up against it. It is just gorgeous.

It is from Asos and comes in other colours such as a vibrant red or yellow. But turquoise is the colour for me. It is €85, which is a tad steep for this student budget of mine. Oh well, a girl can dream can't she?

I've noticed I've been dreaming a lot lately instead of buying :(

White is a colour that is a major trend this summer. It is most certainly a colour I will enjoy wearing. I already have three white dresses, but sure, I could do with a few more white pieces. There are hundreds of gorgeous pieces on the high street but here are a few pieces that I really really want! Out of all of them my favourites are the blazer and the brogues. Oh they are delicious!

This all-white look is a tad scary though. It looks gorgeous on the models but in the real world how practical is it really? (God I'm talking about practicality!) But I'm serious, when I wear white I am always extra cautious not to stain the garment, a stain is always a billion times worse when it's on something white. I immediately rush to the ladies to dab water on it. But sure I could give it ago I suppose, what are washing machines for. Tis all in the name of fashion.

I think if I was to wear all white I would put on some strong coral/purple/red lippy to add some colour, and of course a big block colour handbag! Nothing better than a bit of pop against all that white.

Graphic Monday...

Found these on Graphic Exchange. Not much was said about them except that they were created by Glasfurd & Walker.

I love this style... A nod to an older world while still keeping modern touches. If only I could design like this. Slowly but surely I'll get there! Really want one of those paper bags as well.
