graphic monday...

I thought I'd share another typeface that I am liking (loving) at the moment. The typeface is called Antechamber and in the words of the designer it is "a hyperstylized display face that draws its inspiration from architecture, drafting, industrial design and other stuff that sounds cool."

It reminds of those little plastic pieces of a toy you'd have to pop out of the little plastic frame (that probably makes no sense to anybody- if it does let me know.)

If you like the look of this typeface you can download it for free here.

smoulder...

So I am heading out tonight with my gang (clicks fingers) and its the night before Halloween... Now I have already done the dress up thing this week but I do want to do a little something given the occasion. So I decided that I'm gonna be a little adventurous with my eye make up. Gonna go a bit Black Swan, a bit smudgy, a bit dark, a bit mysterious, a bit glamourous. The kind of eyes that will shock and seduce, that will scare and mesmerise.

I bought a new dress that is black and dark green, and it has a gorgeous drapey neck. So I am leaning toward dark green, gold and black for my eyes. To finish the look and gonna mess up the auld hair. Curl it and fuzz it up! Lets just hope I don't scare the boyfriend.

Any plans yourselves for Halloween? Do tell...

glitter, tasty...

As you may have gathered from an earlier post, I am loving Miu Miu's 2011 winter collection. Which, of course, includes there shoes! So I just had to do a post on there stunning little glitter shoe-booty thingys. Yum or what? I think the colours of both pairs work really well annd the shape is so unique. AND they are so sparkly, which is the winning feature in my opinion. A shoe you would buy if you definitely want to stand out from the crowd. I want them, I need them...

Obviously cannot afford these wonders, but a girl can dream...

However, I have found that Topshop have done their own little version of these shoes, slightly more reserved in the colour and shape, so if you aren't in love with insane shoes like me these would be right up your street. They are a stunning version of this style and at approximately €90 they are a damn sight cheaper than my precious Miu Mius.

leather and wool...

Mondays are my lazy days... I don't have college so I attempt to do college work and thesis stuff. Every Monday I get up and I am all positive that I am gonna rock the day. Then I get started and I get bored, really quickly. I power through for awhile and then I give up and watch telly and surf the web for the rest of the day. Productive I know!

So my Monday outfits consist mainly of comfortable things, things that hang off me and keep me cosy, things such as this awesomely snug jumper and converse. I've actually been living in this jumper (even when it's not part of my original outfit). It is really toasty, so I need not layer just yet.

So in the morning I throw whatever I see on in hope that they work. Today I actually think this outfit works. But I could be wrong...

Here are some designs that were created for Wrangler Denim. I love the relaxed and playful vibe of the whole thing. Yet even though it feels relaxed there is a uniformity to it all, within the repetition and colours, making it balanced.

I really like this style. Playful but not fussy. Its expressive without being too in your face (even though the type is MASSIVE.) Plus the idea that it is all done on corrugated metal just makes it better, stops it from becoming flat.

Love, love, love.

black & white...

This editorial is called Up in the Air for Fashion Gone Rogue. The model is Anastasia Yakunina, the stylists are Cally Palmer and Cristal Birch and the photographer is Marco Trunz. These gorgeous photographs were taken in Cape Town, South Africa and the model was lucky enough to be wearing vintage Hermes, Chanel and the likes.

I think these pictures are gorgeous, I think the styling is beautiful, I think the make up is divine and the whole atmosphere and theme of the photo shoot is lovely and old timey (yes that is totally a word.) A world where there was no such thing as casual, where your stockings had seams and glamour and elegance were a must. And what I wouldn't do for one of those little suit cases.

All very Casablanca... Yum!

wish I was wearing #4

Jaysus there is a serious nip in the air! People are wearing gloves and hats and all that jazz. I'm sitting here working away with the heating on. Last week that would have been unspeakable. Luckily, I love when the weather gets cold. You get the chance to pair things that you normally wouldn't with the wonderful excuse "sure it was freezin' and I had nothing else!"

Cable knit sweaters, soft scarves and chunky brogues (with socks of course) are all necessary staples I need for the next few days (or weeks, probably months). And then all I need (want) is a big dose of colour! I think that would keep me happy and warm.

shoe lust...

Yet another pair of shoes has caught my eye (well actually several pairs have caught my eye, but that is not the point). I want to talk to you guys about these ones. Why? Because these my friends are part of the Louis Vuitton a/w 2011 collection and therefore completely unattainable. Curse being an unemployed student! If it were possible these babies would be on my feet now (which would look weird since I'm in my pj's but that's how much I love them).

They are from their fetish collection and I think are really the perfect shoe for this autumn/winter. The pick up on several key trends for this season including fetish (duh), sixties and minimalism. And if that hasn't convinced you to go out and buy me (and yourself) a pair then how about the fact that they're sooo pretty!

Am seriously considering popping into Brown Thomas to see if I could try these bad boys on. It might be risky, they'll probably call security on the "crazy woman who won't take the pretty shoes off".

Risky indeed.

Here is the cover design for a magazine called Novum, but as you can see the cover is a little bit special. Hundreds of tiny triangles make up the cover, creating a beautiful effect.

So beautiful, in every way... Colour, type, technique. Even if you are not a designer you can still appreciate the colour palette. Colour blocking is in this season.

Gorgeous!

miu miu...

I know in the fashion world we are already looking at Spring/Summer 2012, but I just can't do that. Fashion for me is truly in the now... I want to enjoy my clothes and not yearn too much for the next season. I know that I already do a little bit of that anyway, so looking at next seasons collection would just make it worse.

Anyway, back to Miu Miu. Their Autumn/Winter 2011 collection is in one word DIVINE! It is so lady-like, so elegant, so forties, yet so quirky and youthful all at the same time. I honestly don't think there is a single part of these outfits that I don't like. I mean why would you with the interesting cuts, the muted (yet still strong) colour scheme, the elegant fit of the dresses, the AMAZING shoes... even the hair and shades are gorgeous.

I like to see Miu Miu making lady-like chic a little quirky but yet still wearable. Yes, I am very happy indeed. Now I just need to be able to afford them.

colour...

So as you all know I'm easing colour back into my monochrome wardrobe. To be honest I just think I don't have any autumnal coloured garments. They are either really dark/black or really bright and fresh. I've no items of clothing that are deep and vibrant. So I think a few key pieces are a need to keep me from becoming too dependent on black and white. The colours that I think I will stick to are burgundy, green and mustard: autumnal and rich.

I wouldn't mind to find any (or all) of these pieces in wardrobe in the coming weeks...

greenish...

Would you believe I introduced some colour into my outfit today. I know! I'm proud of me too. It was nice to have a bit of pop beneath my burgundy coat and black tights. I can go back to monochrome again now.

Tis a great little skirt this. Bought in a second hand shop and then cut up. It has all the benefits of old lady clothing, comfortable, elasticated and above all swishy. I paired it with a plain white tee and chunky ankle boots. I think the "swishy" material of the skirt is great against the boots. A bit of a juxtaposition. Tough and soft. Sometimes I would be worried about pairing items like these together. Worrying about "mixing genres" and all that stuff. But sometimes you just gotta risk it I suppose, even teeny risks like this. They can pay off...

graphic monday...

Yes, I have a favourite style of font. I'm convinced that every aspiring graphic designer does. They would be lying if they said they weren't... trust me. Anyway my favourite style is the blocky, slightly elongated version. Now don't get me wrong I do love those gorgeous retro stylized fonts that we are seeing a lot lately, but there is something so clean and effortless about this kind. It dosen't have to yell to be noticed. This type merely has to walk into a room and all eyes are on it.

Yes I'm weird about type.

This gorgeous typeface is called Director by Roman Yarosh.

Enjoy!

comedy...

that's chic, taghrid, weheartit, the satorialist
So tomorrow night I am heading out for my first ever comedy gig. I know, how have I gone this long without going to one before? Well I was waiting for the right guy... Dylan Moran. Hands down my favourite comedian. Do I need to explain why?

Well anyway me being, well, me; I am racking my brain to come up with the perfect "comedy-show-at-vicar-street" outfit. I have a feeling most people don't give this a second thought. Somewhere between comfy and smart I'm presuming, or maybe just comfy. But that will just not work for me especially since I am also presuming a few jars will be had after said comedy show. So what to wear??? Well, I am going to take inspiration from these lovely ladies. Fun, fresh, with a little bit of sassy smartness thrown in for good measure. I am going to do my hardest to remember to take a photo, so you can all let me know whether I failed spectacularly or not.

In my head at the moment I am thinking black maxi skirt, mary janes and a band tee...

funny bunny...

How cute is Emma Watson in this picture? Cute but with something slightly devilish behind it all. Taken from her shoot with Paul Rankin for Elle magazine.

And just in time for Hallowe'en.

Also... I want those shoes!

crimson killers...

Recently I noticed after a night out that my darling little red heels are getting a little worn and aged and could stand to rest for awhile. Bought for my nineteenth birthday by my sister (who, by the way, has a slight obsession with red heels) they have been complimented many a time and have served me well. I will always love and will continue to wear them but I think I need a new pair of crimson killers to carry the heavy burden on their young shoulders. Thankfully there are loads to choose from at the moment. All styles are catered for in this dynamic and dominating colour. From cutie pie to dark vixen, there seems to be a red shoe for every girl.

Here are a few I wouldn’t mind sharing some dances with… Especially the Ellie shoes in the corner. Yes, I think "pin up diva" is definitely the style I should go with.

Agreed.

suit up!

I had a busy morning ahead of me when I got up this morning (briefs due and the likes) so I felt that comfort was the solution. Practicality is key when you are running around like a headless chicken. So I decided to stick on some tailored black trousers (though I seriously need to take them in-yay!) and dress them down with beat up converse, a quiff and a plain white tee. Once ready I realised I had dressed like Ellen DeGeneres so I couldn't help but dance while printing off my work in class (much to the amusement of my friends).

I have also come to the realisation that I am constantly wearing black and white (tomorrow is no exception) and I beginning to worry that I must be looking terribly dark and moody. I swear I am happy as a clam, I just love monochrome. But I do feel I should breathe a bit of life and colour back into my day to day wardrobe. Colour-blocking is still a key trend and I did try on gorgeous bright pink trousers and then equally gorgeous orange suede wedge ankle boots in Penneys ( I am seriously tempted by the boots, maybe if I spot them back home).

Does anyone else get into a colour palette rut like me? I have a sneaking suspicion it's a seasonal thing.

wish I was wearing #3

Then rain has stopped... for now, and I still have piles of work to do. Fourth year is so much fun (sigh). I want to feel snuggly and warm but I also feel like dazzling the heck out of people! Just because I am stuck on my laptop all day doesn't mean the wow factor should go out of my outfit. If anything it should give me the excuse to be more extravagant (not really sure why but sure go with me on this one).

Dull days demand sparkle, cold days demand chunky knits and wet days demand platforms to keep me out of puddles.
